THERAPEUTIC MILIEU

The therapeutic ethos will be necessarily integrative in nature.

Therapeutic interventions will be informed by psychodynamic, social and behavioural learning theory, and also cognitive behavioural models will be utilised to facilitate increased insight into origins of intra-psychic distress in order to foster self-empowerment.

We believe it to be imperative to also draw on developmental theory for example Margaret Mahler's developmental model and attachment theories to assist all staff members in becoming attuned to each young person's psychological and emotional needs.

Social learning theory and behavioural interventions will be utilised sensitively to facilitate minimisation and reduction in asocial and acting out behaviours.

Positive reinforcement will be utilised to good effect to foster enhanced self-esteem.

We intend to offer both group and individual therapy and also provide family therapy interventions in respect to outreach work.

All staff will be provided with regular support groups, training and clinical supervision.

In addition to the above psychological interventions and underpinning them all are humanistic principles espoused by person-centred approaches namely the core conditions of Carl Rogers: Respect, Warmth, Unconditional Positive Regard, Congruence and Empathy which we firmly believe are essential in our work in order to facilitate personal growth and significant healthy change.
